Ethlie Ann Vare to present ‘Mothers of Invention’ at BC

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Ethlie Ann Vare will speak on “Mothers of Invention” on Wednesday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

Vare will present an entertaining account of the “hidden” women behind familiar products, discoveries and innovations, such as the modern dishwasher, the windshield wiper and the disposable diaper.

Vare is co-author of two non-fiction works about extraordinary women, Mothers of Invention: Forgotten Women and their Unforgettable Ideas and Patently Female: From AZT to TV Dinners, Stories of Women Inventors and their Breakthrough Ideas. She’s won an American Library Award for these books.

For more than a decade, Vare has been listed in the International Who’s Who of Women. She’s been a visiting lecturer at George Mason University and Brigham Young University.

Vare has served as a broadcast journalist on the E! Channel and has written and produced such television shows as “Silk Stalkings,” Gene Roddenberry’s “Andromeda” and CBS’s series “CSI.”

The program is open to the public at no charge.
